Mic-Key & Tubie Whoobies

Feeding Tube Tips, Tricks, and Resources

Maddie’s first surgery was her g-tube so my experience with this thing has spanned over the past 6 years and being her first surgery and implanted device, I researched g-tubes and tube care for weeks. I have compiled not just a list of resources for before the surgery, but, some awesome supplies and my daily cleaning routine which has kept us granulation tissue free and with a site I am constantly complemented for.

Before Surgery

www.tubiefriends.com was an incredible resource. Not only do they offer a FREE BEAR to any child who is getting a g-tube or who has a g-tube, but, they have links to tube feeding resources, support groups, and sell animals outfitted with g-tubes ($35 for velvet bears and $40 for a custom animal) but they can add trachs, ports, PICC lines, and central lines. I would apply as soon as you know the surgery date as it can take several weeks to fill your request.

www.feedingtubeawareness.org is the only other resource you will need when first beginning your tube feeding journey. From the basics to awareness and support this site has it all! There is so much information out there on the internet, but this site simplifies and organizes the information so that it is not only easy to read, but easy to go back to.

After Surgery

www.tubiewhoobies.com is the best g-tube pad supplier, period. Their pads may seem a little pricey at $5 a piece but not only do they work to keep some of the leakage from around the tube off your child’s skin, which can cause irritation, but they are so cute! Princesses, dump trucks, animals, French fries, flowers, and Rudolph are just a couple of the hundreds of styles they offer! They do occasionally have sales (black Friday is a must as they have some tubies at just $2) and their sets can definitely save you a little cash. This also is a great gift idea in lieu of flowers or balloons while your child is in the hospital.
